The countdown to Mother’s Day (Sunday 31st March!) is on, and we’re absolutely loving hearing about your plans – whether you mark the occasion with something very special or prefer to keep things more low-key at home with family. Inspired by the lovely chats we’ve had here at Two Ducks, we thought we’d take the opportunity to introduce you to our favourite new season fashion pieces by styling them up for a variety of different Mother’s Day activities.
Country walk and a pub lunch
We’re crossing our fingers that the end of March will bring sunshine and warmer temperatures so that we can enjoy a family stroll this Mother’s Day, before finishing up in a lovely country pub with either a chilled glass of white wine or full-on Sunday roast.
For this occasion we’ve chosen a pair of dark blue slim jeans from Part Two – the close-fitting lower legs make them ideal for all types of footwear, allowing you to seamlessly slip from muddy wellies into pub-friendly ankle boots, pumps or trainers. We’ve gone with our Marion Toufet sneakers as we love how the polished gold eyelets and lace jewel bring a luxe touch to the fresh white uppers.
We’re also staying with Part Two up top. This cream polka-dot blouse has a gorgeously silky feel that makes it effortlessly easy to dress up or down. Here the billowing sleeves bring an elegant hint of drama to an otherwise casual silhouette, but you could easily style it with a skirt and heels for work or more formal evening dos.
If the sun fails to make an appearance on Mother’s Day, this outfit is so easy to layer up. Pop a pale-coloured vest or camisole on under the blouse, then add our Part Two beige woven sweater on top. It’s cut to a loose-fitting silhouette that will drape effortlessly over the blouse while keeping you fully colour-coordinated and, most importantly, warm!
To introduce a pop of colour, we’ve added a pink and red silk scarf by Copenhagen-based label Becksöndergaard – you could tie it around your neck like Amber here, or alternatively loop it through your hair or handbag. We’ve also included that trans-seasonal essential: a pair of our new Part Two sunglasses – très chic!
Sunday lunch at home
If you’re staying at home this Mother’s Day – perhaps having the family round for a bite to eat, we understand that you’ll not only want your outfit to look good, but feel easy and comfortable too.
We think that this Part Two look fits the bill perfectly. The bright blue hues will complement any skin tone and hair colour, while also instantly pepping up a spring day. The skirt features a gorgeous swirling print and the sweater is super cosy and comfortable – great for collapsing on the sofa once your guests have gone (given that it’s Mother’s Day, hubby and the kids better be on washing-up duty!)
We’ve styled the look with gold jewellery pieces from some of our favourite brands: Wolf & Moon earrings teamed with an Astrid + Miyu ear cuff for added sparkle, plus one of our new-in Rachel Jackson London necklaces.
Alternatively, if you prefer trousers to skirts, this jumper will look equally stylish teamed with paper-bag waist trousers – we have just the pair from Part Two available in-store.
The brown knee-high boots Claire’s wearing are from British brand Cara and will be arriving for autumn/winter, so consider this a sneak peek! You could finish the look with a similar pair, or simple flat pumps for more ease around the house.
Afternoon tea or an evening meal
If you’re a lucky lady being treated to something truly special this Mother’s Day, why not take the opportunity to leave your trusty jeans in the wardrobe and properly dress up?
Here at Two Ducks we love a midi skirt – the length is so flattering to all shapes and sizes (especially when lifted slightly on a heel) and they’re such versatile pieces. One of our favourites is this new one from Just Female. The pleated design is not only on-trend but the duo-tone white and blue design creates an almost optical illusion as it swishes and sways! We’ve paired it with another piece that the Two Ducks ladies are all lusting over – this Just Female navy blue sweater. Just look at the cool silhouette created by the bubble sleeves!
We’ve teamed the look with some gorgeous suede ankle boots and our must-have new bag from Red Cuckoo – we love the unusual shape and sculptural tortoiseshell handles. Lastly, a sterling silver hoop and pearl necklace from new British jewellery brand Reeves & Reeves adds an elegant finish.
Alternatively, this timelessly chic polka-dot dress from Part Two needs hardly any embellishment at all. It’s cut to a flattering waisted design yet is loose-fitting enough to wear when eating out. We think it’s got more than a hint of Julia Roberts at the races in Pretty Woman! Team it with heeled boots and a blazer now, but it’ll also prove its worth throughout the rest of the season for weddings, garden parties and more.
Spa trip
Dressing for a spa trip can be a tricky one – you want to be relaxed and comfortable, but the environment can make you feel like you need to be in something with a little more polish and style! We think this casual look is just the ticket.
White jeans like this pair from Part Two make a welcome change to classic blue or black, while also keeping the look more seasonally appropriate. We’ve partnered them with one of Thought Clothing‘s super-soft cotton jersey vest tops, which come in a choice of plain or printed designs finished with eye-catching cross-over back straps. If you start to feel chilly, simply layer over this stylishly slouchy grey sweater, also from Thought Clothing.
If you’d like to inject a little more luxury into your trip, why not opt for one of our 100 Stars dressing gowns? You’ll feel a million dollars breezing through the spa in one of its stunning printed designs!
We had loads of fun putting these looks together, and hope we’ve inspired you to perhaps try out something new this Mother’s Day. If you’re feeling inspired but would like a little more help, please do pop in… We’re always delighted to share styling advice with our customers – be it for a specific occasion, or just the challenge of trans-seasonal dressing in general.
If we haven’t chatted about your Mother’s Day plans either (be it for yourself or your mum) do let us know what you’re up to in the comments! 😊
